01_THE LEATHER SET

An archive in transit.

If the archive is a system of movement, leather is its memory.

Leather has always travelled well, recording time instead of resisting it. It doesn’t fade politely - it absorbs pressure and heat, registering habits and repetition. Grain relaxes, corners darken, and handles shape themselves to a hand that is no longer there. The surface does not simply age, it remembers. Patina means proof of life and evidence of circulation.

01_THE LEATHER SET moves through the late ’90s into the early 2000s – when leather began operating as a language of power.

Under Tom Ford, GUCCI transitioned the material into something highly cinematic and charged. Leather shifted from heritage into provocation without sacrificing constructional precision. The era marked a turning point - charged under flash light, the material no longer referenced tradition, but staged confrontation. Voltage replaced nostalgia.

At the same time, CHANEL responded with discipline and sharpened its codes for a decade that demanded clarity. While the structures remained intact, the execution felt native to the turn of the century. Control became the main aesthetic and leather functioned as its architectural base.

DIOR explored calibrated tension through finish – high-shine, sculpted lines, and a very deliberate play with sensuality. Gloss was used strategically, because surface is statement.

Direct and assertive, VERSACE sustained velocity. Leather was understood as declaration, glamour stripped of apology and pushed toward impact.

In different dialects, each house articulated the same shift: Leather as authorship. Charged, disciplined, sculpted, direct. A material capable of holding glamour and structure simultaneously - and of carrying both through time.
