AUTHENTICATION PROCESS & GUIDELINES
At THE SET ARCHIVE, authenticity is not a marketing claim. It is a professional standard.
Every item is individually examined prior to sale using a structured, brand-specific evaluation process. Only pieces that meet our criteria for authenticity and quality enter a SET.
OUR AUTHENTICATION FRAMEWORK
Each item undergoes a multi-step review:
1. Source Vetting
We work exclusively with established, trusted partners, private collectors, and professional resellers. Provenance is assessed before physical inspection begins.
2. Material & Craftsmanship Review
We evaluate:
-
-
Leather quality and natural grain consistency
-
Stitch density and seam alignment
-
Hardware weight, engraving accuracy, and finish
-
Embossing depth and logo precision
-
Interior construction and lining details
-
Luxury construction follows logic. Inconsistencies are investigated.
3. Label & Code Verification
Where applicable, we examine:
-
-
Brand typography and label placement
-
Serial numbers, date codes, holograms
-
Made-in stamps and formatting
-
Era-specific production markers
-
All elements must align with known manufacturing standards of the respective house and period.
4. Period & Design Alignment
Vintage pieces are evaluated within their historical context. Materials, hardware, proportions, and design language must correspond with the brand’s production era.
Authenticity includes chronological accuracy.
CONDITION CLASSIFICATION
Each item is graded according to our four-tier system:
MINT
Unworn or virtually untouched. No signs of wear, brand new condition.
Not even used for production and shoots.
EXCELLENT
Minimal signs of use. Beautifully preserved.
May have been used for production and shoots.
VERY GOOD
Light wear consistent with age and gentle care.
Fully functional and structurally sound.
GOOD
Noticeable wear reflected in pricing.
Authentic, wearable, and structurally intact.
All visible wear is transparently disclosed in product descriptions and imagery.
TRANSPARENCY COMMITMENT
Vintage designer items may be offered without original packaging, dust bags, or authentication cards. This is common within the vintage market and does not impact authenticity verification.
If uncertainty regarding authenticity exists at any stage, the item is not offered for sale.
